Founder’s Note: The Starting Of Vote Sabah.

I started this platform because our voices matter, our votes matter, and our future must no longer be left in the hands of those who have failed us. I could no longer sit by and watch as the same cycle of betrayal repeated itself, election after election.

Why Sabah Needs This Platform

In the last 60 years, Sabah has been plagued with corruption, an unstable state government, and unreliable people of power. Instead of building a stronger Sabah, the state has been treated like a cash cow for those with vested interests. Political parties from outside come not to serve, but to take — stripping our land, our resources, and our opportunities while leaving us behind with poor infrastructure, low job opportunities, and a lack of basic necessities.

The System of Votes for Handouts

For decades, I have watched how votes in Sabah are systematically bought. Handouts, last-minute announcements, and promises of development are dangled before elections. Rural communities, desperate for relief and easily hopeful, sadly, are often pulled into this trap.

The rarer the offer, the easier it becomes for politicians to win votes. And yet, every vote cast in that moment of euphoria means five years of consequences. I have seen this cycle hurt the same people over and over again. It is especially painful to see how rural Sabahans, who deserve the most opportunities, are the ones left with the least.

The Breaking Point: Enough is Enough

Like many Sabahans, I reached a breaking point. The endless corruption scandals, the leaked videos and documents, only confirmed what we already knew: the system is broken.

But the final straw for me was the mishandling of Zara Qairina’s case. Zara was just a 13-year-old girl who deserved justice, dignity, and protection. Instead, she was failed by the very system we trusted. Her story shook me to the core. It felt like the ultimate betrayal, not just of her, but of all Sabahans who still believed our institutions could protect us.

That betrayal ignited something bigger. The #JusticeForZara campaign spread like wildfire across Sabah, Malaysia, and even parts of the world. It showed me that Sabahans have truly had enough.

Before you cast your Vote

Through this platform, I want to:

  • Educate voters about the real consequences of their votes
  • Expose corruption and failed leadership
  • Empower communities with knowledge and awareness
  • Give ordinary Sabahans a space to speak out

I am not here to offer handouts. I am here to encourage lasting change. I want Sabahans to remember that their vote is not something to be bought — it is a responsibility that can shape our future for the better.

Know Who You Are Voting For

One of the most important parts of Vote Sabah is that we list out all our existing elected politicians so voters know exactly who they are voting for. Too often, we cast our votes without really knowing the person behind the name.

Most of the time, we vote because of familiarity, popularity, or simply because “everyone else is voting for them.” But little do we realise that many of these politicians have never been effective as leaders to begin with. By shining a light on their track record — or lack of one — I want to give voters the tools to make informed decisions.

When we know who they are, what they have (or haven’t) done, and how they have represented us, only then can we decide if they truly deserve our vote again.
