As “INDEPENDENCE” Day is just a FEW hours away. I penned these thoughts because honestly, this year it feels a little detach. It felt like we’ve been fooled and betrayed for years.
From the way Zara’s case is handled to the ADUN’s corruption cases matter, to the mineral case license, to handing over 70,000 hectares of land to one called Farhash, I am frustrated with whats happening in Sabah.
Here it is:
31st August 1957, for some, it meant it all,
For Tanah Melayu, it was the dawn of a new light,
But for Sabah, our journey was still out of sight.
Six years later, on the same date we stand,
Self-governing, proud, our future in hand,
Malaysia was born, a nation anew,
On 16th September 1963, we became part too,
Without Sabah and Sarawak, there is NO MALAYSIA.
Yet, have SABAH really tasted true independence?
We are still reliant on others for our own existence,
Our resources taken, yet crumbs left behind
While power is traded, leaving us blind.
Our leaders, too many, betray our trust,
Selling our future for power, it’s unjust.
Basic needs we still strive to fulfill,
While the poorest among us remain still.
A land so vast, yet opportunities few,
Two public universities, for a population so true.
We can’t even manage our own affairs,
Education and healthcare still in despair.
While Sarawak flies with pride in their air,
Sabah, left behind, just a sign to bear.
Leaders who bow down instead of fight,
For our rights, for our future, for what is right.
This 17th election, we must choose,
For SABAH DESERVES BETTER, let’s refuse—To be slaves in our homeland,
it’s time to rise,
Don’t fall for the lies, the empty disguise.
We have a choice, it’s in our hands,
Don’t let them take it, don’t let it slip through the sands.
For Sabah deserves more, you and I know,
Together, let’s make our nation’s true spirit grow.
